Atores de Once Upon a Time conversam e contam histórias em coletiva no Rio

ATENÇÃO: O TEXTO A SEGUIR CONTÉM SPOILERS DAS QUATRO TEMPORADAS DE ONCE UPON A TIME.

Ontem o casamento entre pessoas de mesmo sexo foi aprovado nos Estados Unidos. Eu estava no Twitter lendo mensagens sobre o assunto quando vi uma postagem da atriz Lana Parrilla comemorando essa decisão. Eu sorri na hora. Afinal, eu lia essa postagem enquanto estava a caminho de encontrá-la para uma coletiva de imprensa do evento Ever After, no Rio de Janeiro. Lana nunca escondeu sua opinião em relação a esse assunto e, durante a coletiva, comentou sobre o grande dia que estávamos vivendo. Afinal, Once Upon a Time é uma série que prega o poder do amor e #LoveWins (#OAmorVence) não poderia ser uma hashtag mais coerente. Sean Maguire e Rebecca Mader também estavam presentes e declararam seu apoio e felicidade com o assunto e disseram o quanto é bom ver uma notícia como essa no meio de tanta coisa ruim acontecendo no mundo.

E esse foi apenas um dos assuntos que rolaram na coletiva. Durante cerca de uma hora de conversa, os atores comentaram sobre seus gostos, carreiras, contaram histórias e falaram sobre a série e suas expectativas em relação aos personagens. O maior mistério da próxima temporada, o futuro da Emma, infelizmente continua sendo um mistério. Lana comentou que a Regina passou a última temporada se esforçando para não deixá-la ir para o lado negro, porém agora ela é o próprio Senhor das Trevas. Ela espera que não apenas Regina, mas todos os personagens se esforcem juntos para salvar Emma. Lana disse gostar desse mistério. Ela, que detesta spoilers, prefere vivenciar as surpresas junto com a personagem. Já Rebecca tentou tirar um spoiler dos autores algumas vezes e sempre recebeu um "não" como resposta. Os três atores estarão envolvidos em uma espécie estranha de triângulo amoroso na próxima temporada, já que Zelena está grávida de Robin que namora Regina que é irmã de Zelena (ufa!). A única coisa que eles afirmam é que o assunto ainda vai render, já que Zelena vai ter o bebê do Robin. "Mas tudo pode mudar, não sabemos se eles terão um bebê verde. Ele poderia ser roxo", brinca Lana.

Talvez o motivo de tanto mistério seja porque os autores também estão descobrindo a história enquanto a escrevem. Para os atores, o desenvolvimento de seus personagens é algo natural, que acontece com o tempo. Rebecca deixou clara a sua felicidade com a personagem e disse que nem pensou duas vezes antes de dizer "sim" quando os produtores a convidaram de volta. Tanto ela quanto Sean foram chamados para poucos episódios e acabaram ficando. Zelena se tornou uma personagem querida e Rebecca acredita que o motivo disso seja a identificação. "Qualquer pessoa que tenha passado por algo ruim pode se identificar com ela", diz a atriz. Enquanto Regina, originalmente a vilã de história, entrou oficialmente para o grupo dos mocinhos na última temporada. Para Lana,"vilões fazem coisas que não podemos fazer na vida real. E são coisas que as pessoas querem fazer". Talvez ver os vilões transformando pessoas em sapos e criando bolas de fogo seja uma forma de colocar para fora o nosso próprio lado ruim, os momentos de raiva. Fez bastante sentido para mim e eu comecei a entender e até gostar um pouco mais daquelas duas vilãs, se é que isso era possível. Apesar desta identificação do público, ser vilão não é fácil. Tanto que Rebecca revelou que faz pequenos truques como ouvir música, dançar e ter boas conversas para sair da personagem após cada gravação.

Once Upon a Time se tornou conhecida por revisitar os clássicos da Disney, e é claro que os atores também foram influenciados por essas histórias na infância. Lana assistia a Dumbo com o pai e Sean adorava o urso Balu de Mogli, o Menino Lobo. Rebecca se identificava com a ruivinha Ariel, de A Pequena Sereia, e adoraria poder interpretar o Simba (O Rei Leão) em OUaT. Apesar de conhecer a história de Branca de Neve, Lana conta que procurou a referência para Regina entre outros personagens "maus", fora da Disney. Rebecca e Sean também preferiram não se prender aos originais e deram aos personagens características exclusivas, sem se basear em nenhuma interpretação anterior.

O ambiente estava tão íntimo e descontraído que fui pega de surpresa quando o tempo da entrevista acabou. Antes de sair, os três elogiaram os fãs brasileiros e contaram que adoram estar próximos, ouvir histórias e conhecer as pessoas. Durante este fim de semana Lana Parrilla, Rebecca Mader, Sean Maguire e Colin O'Donoghue receberão os fãs na convenção Ever After. Saiba mais.

‘ONCE UPON A TIME’ ACTORS CHAT AND TELL STORIES AT PRESS CONFERENCE IN RIO

Yesterday same-sex marriage was approved in the United States. I was reading messages about it on Twitter when I came across a post from the actress Lana Parrilla celebrating such decision. I smiled. After all, I read such post while on my way to meet her for a press conference held by the Ever After convention in Rio de Janeiro. Lana has never hidden her opinion on this matter and, during the conference, she commented on the big day we were living. In the end, Once Upon a Time is mainly about the power of love, and #LoveWins could not have been a more coherent hashtag. Sean Maguire and Rebecca Mader were also present at the conference and expressed their support and happiness on the matter, declaring how good it is to see this kind of news among so many bad things happening in the world.

This was only one of the topics addressed at the press conference though. For about an hour of conversation, the actors commented on their interests and careers, shared stories and talked about the show and their expectations regarding the characters. The greatest mystery of next season, Emma’s future, unfortunately remains a mystery. According to Lana, Regina spent last season trying hard not to let Emma go to the dark side, but now that Emma is the Dark One herself, Lana hopes that not only Regina but also all the characters strive together to save her. Lana likes such mystery though. She, who hates spoilers, prefers to experience the surprises along with her character. Rebecca, on the other hand, has tried to get spoilers from the authors a few times, but she has always received a “no” for an answer. The three actors will get involved in a strange sort of love triangle next season, as Zelena is pregnant by Robin, who is dating Regina, who is Zelena’s sister (phew!). The only thing they can affirm is that such plot still has legs, as Zelena is expecting a baby with Robin. “But everything can change. We don’t know if they will have a green baby. It might be purple”, Lana jokes.

Possibly the reason for all this mystery is that the authors are also discovering the story while writing it. For the actors, the development of their characters is something natural, something that happens over time. Rebecca made it quite clear how happy she is with her character and said that she did not think twice before saying “yes” when the producers invited her back to the show. Both she and Sean were cast for a few episodes and ended up staying. Zelena became a beloved character and Rebecca believes that this happened due to an identification with the character. “Anyone who has gone through something bad can identify with her”, says the actress. While Regina, originally the villain of the story, has officially joined the good guys’ team last season. For Lana, “villains do things we can’t do in real life. And these are things that people want to do”. Perhaps watching the villains turning people into frogs and throwing fireballs is a way to purge ourselves of our own dark side, our moments of anger. It made perfect sense to me and I began to understand and even to like those two villains a little more, if such thing is even possible. Despite the identification of the public, being a villain is not easy. So much that Rebecca revealed doing little tricks such as listening to music, dancing and having a good conversation to get out of the character after each shooting day.

‘Once Upon a Time’ became known for revisiting the Disney’s classics, and, of course, the actors were also influenced by such stories in their childhood. Lana used to watch Dumbo with her father and Sean loved Baloo the Bear from The Jungle Book. Rebecca identified herself with the little redhead Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and she would love to play Simba from The Lion King on OUaT. Despite knowing the story of Snow White, Lana said that she sought the reference for Regina in other “evil” characters, outside of Disney. Rebecca and Sean also preferred not to stick to the original characters and gave such characters unique features, not relying on any previous interpretation.

The atmosphere was so intimate and casual that I was caught by surprise when the interview ended. Before leaving, the three actors praised the Brazilian fans and said that they love being close to the fans, hearing their stories and meeting people. During this weekend Lana Parrilla, Rebecca Mader, Sean Maguire and Colin O’Donoghue will greet the fans at the Ever After convention. More details here.
